October camping on Cape Cod

Posted on

This is what happens when you do a major upgrade to your camping gear so late in the season… With 3 days to spare, you dash out to Cape Cod early October, early in the week, desperate to try out the new set up. The 90 plus space Wellfleet Hollow State Campground is still open, and it has only 4 occupied spaces! The air is sweet and mild (some definitely will go for a plunge in the water), the sun is warm, and full moon produces so much light that you try to search for that lantern that you think you forgot outside. You hesitate, however, because coyotes and owls are howling nearby. Then, there is the morning golden light distraction when you try to make the coffee. A photographer’s dream.

And this is how our Snowpeak tent and takibi fireplace and grill ended up with us in the forest, by the sandy trail to a pristine pond, close to the most majestic beaches. Out new “wilderness home” treated us well.
